I bought a new car just before Christmas. It has a significant but intermittent fault. It's been back to the garage a few times but they claim they cannot find a fault, and that they are not prepared to spend a lot of time looking as they only get paid under the warranty if they find a fault.

What rights do I have? Any advice welcome.

Just keep giving it back to them they can't refuse you if its under warranty

firstly complain to the garage. this can work if you make a formal written complaint. secondly write to the manufacturer and state what has happened , thirdly if this fails contact trading standards for selling goods unfit for intended use.
Whilst you are doing any or all of this take your car to another franchised dealer for your make of car as it is the manufacturer that supplies the warranty not the garage that you bought the car from

If the car is brand new the garage have a time limit to put it right,if that fails they should give you another new car.
Go to the trading standing office

Trading Standards and Citizens Advice. Failing that, contact the Guardian's consumer editor and see if they can get the dealer to do his job properly.

depends on whats up with your car,
if u think theres a problem but the mechanics cant find one ur stuffed but if its a clear problem then complain to the dealer and if the basically tell you to piss off go higher and have a winge!

Exactly what Mick said, at this point I'd be saying you want a replacement car or your money back.

Trading standards will help you!
