Limewire and other "free" peer to peer sharing services are an easy way to spread virus' and other nasty things that can totally screw up your computer. A friend of mine downloaded what he thought was a video, and it was really a program that screwed up his computer bad. He tried having (actually paid them) someone clean it up, but they couldn't and in the end had to reformat the hard drive. He lost everything. It would have been cheaper to pay for the music/videos.

I have no proof, but I suspect it's the music industry planting these kinds of bombs on networks like limewire.

Running a virus scan after you've downloaded and run the file is to late. You need scan the file before you "play" it, even then the scan may not find anything.

Have someone (dad) or give yourself a $20/month allowance on a service like iTunes or Napster. It won't take long before you have a huge library.

once you're implying that Limewire is a pandemic in itself than no. Limewire is a legalized software and the way it really is getting used is as a lot because the guy utilising it. you're literally not getting viruses by way of utilising Limewire. You get viruses even as your seek for for songs, video clips, information, etc. utilising Limewire. Limewire is a peer-to-peer software and what I advise is, the outcomes that are shown correspond to the diverse those who owns a particular merchandise and are prepared to let your receive their content. yet, there is an chance you may receive an contaminated report or a pandemic from the guy you're downloading from. operating example, you pick to receive song. the outcomes will teach a itemizing of diverse songs. each song is offered by way of someone utilising Limewire and also you are able to receive any of them. yet, an contaminated report may connect that record so becareful once you receive products from human beings. it really is what you do with Limewire that will advance the probabilities of shopping for a trojan horse.

limewire itself isn't bad; it's the stuff you download with it that can contain some nasty viruses. But music should be safe.

Its filled with Junk now mostly you end up getting spam / viruses unless you have a good knowledge to select the good ones. It consumes lot of resources of your computer even your bandwidth. Still if you're running a good virus scanner and a spam filter then you'll be safe.

Alternatives are eMule, Bearshare and BitTorrents.

Sure you can try another file sharing program....They all have their risks though....They all say "Hey I'm here" and theres lots of hackers that try to use the file sharing to hacjk into your stuff....best thing to do would be to disable thos programs from loading at startup....and then to use them only when you want music and then turn it off... other probs are with some programs that add alot of "support" software that bogs down your system,....

Yes, it's horrible for your computer. It brings along so much spam & viruses and allows other files to bring them into your computer as well. What I did was download BitTorrent, you can't d/l individual songs, you have to download whole albums. But, it doesn't do anything to harm my computer (just takes up some space)
