Well, there you go. This is one of the bigger reasons why I turned away from Christianity. I refuse to allow fear into my life, in particular my spiritual life.

Fear of God comes out of love for God. If one truly loves God then that person would fear displeasing God. It helps to remember that words can not only have more than one meaning, but more than one shade of meaning. For instance, these days the word SUFFER means to experience some form of pain, but in the KJ bible which first came out in 1611, the word SUFFER meant LET as in Mark 10:14:
King James Version- Mark 10:14
But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

The more modern versions use the word LET.
New International Version -Mark 10:14
When Jesus saw this, he was angry. He said to his disciples, "Let the little children come to me. Don't keep them away. God's kingdom belongs to people like them.

One of the meanings of FEAR is found in the dictionary which says:
"Extreme reverence or awe, as toward a supreme power."

1 john 5:3 tells us:
"For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome...

So that doesn't sound like we should have mortal fear of the wrath of god, does it? Didn't God offer his own son so we might enjoy everlasting life.

Finally, James 4:8 tells us:
" Draw close to God, and he will draw close to YOU." We can do this by studying his word.

It's kind of like this; I love my dad very much, but I remember when I was a child, I was afraid of disappointing him through bad behavior. I feared facing him when I did something wrong. That didn't stop me from loving him though. He is a good father, and he loves me and I love him. The same thing applies to God.

God does not want you to Love
Him because of fear. He wants
you to Love Him for what He
really is. Good.

Fear means respect. It is not the same as fearing someone or thing might cause you harm.

To fear God is to obey him and fear his wrath. A person who fears God loves him. A person who does not fear God is a fool and is looking for a fool's reward, which is death.

If Jesus was here today He would not instill fear.
I think those passages that speak to your question should read fear displeasing Him. Not Him.
We are all destined to heaven as perfect souls should be .
God cannot make imperfect souls.

Fear was and still is used to control the weak.

Why do you think christians are always going around saying everyone else is going to hell? It's not to spread the love.

Fear what you could do to your self, what God could do to you for what you did to your self, and love God for forgiveness.

Where there is fear there is no love.

That is why I don't worship the Christian god.
