Mechanical engineering is a pretty broad field. I would think it would be cool to build machines for manufacturing.
Electrical engineering is still very much in need.
Environmental engineering will be the wave of the future, good oportunities there.
Electronic engineering is what's hot now.
I know so many engineers that do so many things...what a great field of study.

Environmental Engineering.. There is a huge shortage of EE's currently. I am an Environmental Scientist and work in the consulting world.

medical engineering in my opinion is one of the best fields to be in right now

Depends on what you like and are possible good at.

if considering the current trend its good to do electronics and communication eng or computer science
