Hi, I need to format an external hard drive to FAT32 but I don't know how. Also, I need the program (if I need one) free. Thanks in advance!

Also, when I try to format it from the Disk Management Software, only NFTS shows up on the drop down list. Please Help!

Once your External HDD is connected to your computer and detected, Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
Computer Manager should appear now, on the left side tree view select Disk Management. You should be able to see all connected devices (Disks, e.g. Disk 1) from that select your HDD right click on it and select format. Say yes to the confirmation message. Then from the File System drop down select FAT32 and then format.

In OEM Service release 2 or in Windows 98, if you run the FDISK system utility it will ask whether to enable large disk support. If you answer yes, any partition you create that's greater than 5I2MB will be marked as a FAT32 partition.
NTFS is a better file system

the program is format.exe. it's available in the windows installation. just go START>RUN enter cmd in the box and hit ok. then at the command prompt enter format D: /fs:fat32 where D is should be the letter of the external drive....
example if my external drive is E then i would enter
format e: /fs:fat32

If you are using WindowsXP its much easier. connect the drive it wil be detected. go to control panel, administrative tools then to disk management, there you will c the connected disk drives, from ther you can do whatever you want on your drive
