If you name the kid after the dad (the same name as the dad), then the son is Junior. when Junior grows up and has a son named after him, that kid would be the third (III)

Junior is the son who has the exact same name as his father. When "junior" has a son, that son is the III and Junior can either stay "Junior" or switch to II and father becomes either I or stays as Senior.
WIth second, there could be a few generations between. Say a man named Alonso Ceasar Stephens has a son named William Brown Stephens, then William has a son he decides to name after his father and names him Alonso Ceasar Stephens, then the 2nd Alonso because Alonso Ceasar Stephens, II.
That does not work if you're naming a child after someone who is not in the family. Say your last name is Chamberlain and you have a son and want to name him Walt Chamberlain after the basketball player, that child is NOT a II, but he would be if the elder Walt was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, etc.
Hope that makes sense and helps you understand.

A Junior is when a boy has the same first, middle and last name as his father. The father then becomes a 'Senior'. Numerals after names only begin to occur when a man who is a Junior gives his son the same first, middle, and last name. The son then is 'III" or the third, and the father and grandfather, who were junior and senior, can now be referred to as II (second) and I (first). Normally this distinction of names is not given to females, even if they inherit a mother's name.

A son born and the son is given the exact name of his father, the son will b the second, II, junior. if a male is born and he is given the exact name of a grand-father or up the line(great-grand etc) depending on how many have the name the male is the II, III, IV(second, third, fourth) the male is not a junior if it has skipped a generation. this doesn't apply if the male is taking the name of a uncle, or cousin. George Forman--named his 4 sons after him-jr., III, IV, and V

Well when the son is named after his father then he is a Junior and if that kid has a son and names him the same then it would be the third.

It's what the parents want them called. I have a nephew Jonathan Robinson Jr. and I have a nephew Joseph Jessop II So it really depends on the parents.

They are both the same and it's up to the parent to decide what to name (call) them.
