EQ - is a measure of your emotional intelligence, or your ability to use both your emotions and cognitive skills in your life. Emotional intelligence competencies include but are not limited to empathy, intuition, creativity, flexibility, resilience, coping, stress management, leadership, integrity, authenticity, intrapersonal skills and interpersonal skills.

IQ - a number used to express the apparent relative intelligence of a person that is the ratio multiplied by 100 of the mental age as reported on a standardized test to the chronological age. IQ is the measure of cognitive abilities, such as the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new situations; the skilled use of reason; the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria (as tests); mental acuteness; logic and analytical skills.

EQ is emotional quotient or emotional intelligence also sometimes referred to as common sense

IQ is intelligence quotient

The Scientific Definition of EQ is 'the array of non-cognitive skills, capabilities and competencies that influence a person's ability to cope with environmental pressures.'

A person can have high IQ but have no social skills whatsoever or be a complete sociopath. High EQ allows people to deal more effectively and cope with other people.

I think you need a good balance of both.

I think it just has to do with socialization and what kinds of things people are exposed to. Someone with a higher IQ may not be in the same situations (interested in the same things as their peers) to develop strong relationships etc. Obviously they aren't directly related because low IQ goes hand in hand with low EQ, but I think that high IQ is just a contributing factor to EQ, it can have an impact on how people socially and emotionally develop. Of course it's just "in general", and a low EQ doesn't mean someone is mean or rude, they just aren't in tune with the people around them, which you can really only develop from being able to relate to people.

IQ - Intelligence Quotient
EQ - Educational Quotient also used to mean Emotional Intelligence since many feel that IQ is not enough to measure "true" intelligence.
