My one cat sure likes me; she's very affectionate to me but only me -she will let my mom pet her sometimes but she follows me around and she comes when I call her (yes, she is a cat, not a dog :)).
My other cat is less particular and allows strangers to pet him but he's still clearly most comfortable around me, he often cuddles up to me on the bed.

Can people love anyone, and if so, how do you know? Because they buy you a present?

Cats give back EXACTLY what they receive, so if you just feed them and then shoo them away they will keep away from you.
If you show them care and concern they search for your company. Dogs are sweet dullards, and even if a bad owner kicks them in the face they go back for more. Cats don't do that, kick a cat once and not only you're a nasty creep, but you will never see that cat again. Mutual respect and affection, winning of trust and acceptance of personal preferences are a must with all cat relationships.

When they purr and come looking for you they are showing their love. Of course they don't follow you all day long, do you? To people you love?

How can you not know when you're loved? Are you a robot or something?

yes a cat can love it owner and the reason I know is I have a male cat that will jump on top of me and will talk to me and lay next to me and will sit on my lap and rub his face to my face or glasses. Cats are very affactionet and very loveable too it all really depends on how you treat your cats. Cats are like human they need to be loved like we do. I hope I answer your questions for you.

ways to know if your cat loves you
1 it purrs when by you
2 it follows you and not just to the food and water dish
3 it brushes up against your leg or other body part in reach
4 it decides to lay by you on the bed or couch
5 if outdoor type cat it leaves you dead things it caught that night on your doorstep
6 it rarely if ever hisses at you over playing to rough
7 it lets you play with it
i hope this helps

From personal experience's : They jump on the bed and want to be close to you, they are happy when you get home and curl around your legs as you try to walk and not step on them. When you go in the kitchen and open the frigerator they want some too. When you sit on the toliet and they want to be petted. They pure when you pet them or scratch them. They follow you around the house, they follow you outside. They want to know what you are doing all the time.

When I lay down on the couch he comes over and curls up on my chest, when I come home from work after being gone all day he is waiting for me at the door and follows me around meowing until I pick him up and pet him, Same thing in the morning when I wake up, he follows me around my apartment and won't stop meowing until I pick him up.

That's enough for me to know he does.

Ah, Janice, you described my cat exactly. I couldn't have asked for a more affectionate cat. I love it...he's been my best friend through some pretty rough times...and I think he knows it!

A cat shows signs of love. Purring, cuddling, Of course my cats were pissed at me when I had kids. One was so mad he moved in with my neighbors. I had to go ask for him back.
