PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY
I
WHEN YOU HEAR THE THUNDER BOOMING, WHEN YOU SEE THE LIGHTENING FLASH.
WHEN THE CASTLES YOU HAVE BUILDED HAVE ALL FALLEN WITH A CRASH.
AND WHEN EVERY THING ABOUT YOU HAS ALL CRUMBLED TO DECAY.
IF YOU'LL JUST START RIGHT IN PRAYING, YOU CAN PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY
II
WHEN OLD SATAN KEEPS TORMENTING, TELLING YOU A LOT OF LIES.
THEN AGAIN IT SEEMS THE SHADOWS COME TO VEIL YOUR SUNNY SKIES.
WHEN HE LAUGHS AT ALL YOUR WEAKNESS, AND HE MOCKS YOU AS YOU PRAY.
ONCE AGAIN JUST START IN PRAYING AND YOU'LL PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY.
III
OTHER PEOPLE SEEM TO PROSPER WHILE IT SEEMS GOD KEEPS YOU POOR.
YOU CAN SCARCELY MAKE EXPENSES, KEEP THE WOLF BACK FROM THE DOOR.
THEN YOU GAZE UPON YOUR LOVED-ONES, THROUGH THE EYES BY TEARS MADE DIM.
THINKING OF THE NEEDED COMFORTS BUT THEIR NEEDS ARE KNOWN TO HIM.
IV
WHEN THE ENEMY KEEPS WHISPERING THAT THE LORD'S FORGOTTEN YOU.
WHEN THE POOR FARM AND IT'S TERROR, KEEP APPEARING ON THE VIEW.
JUST REMEMBER DEAR OLD DAVID THAT FROM YOUTH TO AGE HE SAID.
I'VE NOT SEEN THE JUST FORSAKEN, NOR GOD'S CHILDREN BEGGING BREAD.
V
EVEN DEATH ITSELF WAS CONQUERED BY OUR SAVIOR ON THE TREE.
HE EXPOSED IT'S REIGN OF TERROR. MADE IT HARMLESS AS CAN BE.
DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY WHEN IT COMES YOUR WAY JUST SING.
AND YOU'LL FIND IT IS A BLUFFER, SINCE GOD TOOK AWAY IT'S STING.
CHORUS
PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY.
PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY
PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY
THE DREARY CLOUDS SO DARK AND GRAY
ALL THE DREARY CLOUDS OH SO DARK AND GRAY.
PRAY UNTO THE LORD
JUST KEEP ON PRAYING TO THE LORD
PRAY UNTO THE LORD.
BELIEVE THE PROMISE OF HIS WORD
OH BELIEVE THE PROMISE PRECIOUS
PROMISE OF HIS WORD
CLOUDS ARE LIKE THE SNOW
FOR TRULY CLOUDS ARE LIKE THE SNOW
CLOUDS ARE LIKE THE SNOW
WHEN SHINES THE SUN THEY ALL MUST GO
BRIGHTLY SHINES THE SUN
SWIFTLY THEY MUST GO.
PRAY UNTIL YOU PRAY
LOOK UP AND PRAY MY BROTHER PRAY,
PRAY UNTIL YOU PRAY
AND YOU WILL PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY
PRAY ON BROTHER PRAY, PRAY THE CLOUDS AWAY.

I'm sorry that I can't help you. I grew up with bluegrass, which originally sprung from Gospel. Flat and Scruggs did the most to pioneer the 5-string Banjo picking instead of strumming. I was playing some old tapes the other day, and came across the song, New Freedom Bell. The words are,
Now have you found, that freedom song.
The Liberty bell, in my soul.
Though it may ring throughout the land,
And we may know, that freedom will stand.
Ring oh ring - you freedom bell,
So we will know - that all is well.
Our names are there - for all to see,
In the land of - the happy and free.
There is more. I was wondering if there was a history to that song. Anyway, - happy picking.
