I put my baby on vitamins when she was a year old because the doctor tested her iron level and it was low. If you breastfeed you might want to consider vitamins for the iron. Formula has added iron. Because my baby HATED the taste of the liquid vitamins, I kept her on formula longer so she would get her nutrients there. If teh baby is really a picky eater it might not be a bad thing, but food should contain everything a person needs as long as they are getting enough and have enough variety.

First of all, I would not give any child a vitamin with Flouride in it! It is a poison that is no good for your body! This is my personal opinion, besides, it's in your tap water and toothpaste already, I WOULD NOT give my child toxins, no matter how safe it seems they are. They are already getting enough toxins in everyday life, surely don't add anymore.
If you feel your child is deprived of vitamins, try some juices with fruit and veggies, I am in Western Canada and have a great company called Sun-Rype. They make juice boxes with 2 servings of fruits and veggies in every box! The flavors are StrawberryBanana and RaspberryOrange, so they don't taste at all like veggie juice. If you dont have Sun-Rype in your area you could try V8. Just make sure if you choose to supplement with a vitamin that you know what all the ingredients are on the label, so you know what you're putting into your sons body.

After I stopped formula, and just started with Vitamin D milk, I did vitamins. Don't give your son any vitamins if he is on formula, then he gets too much Iron and other things you don't want to overlap on. If he is 16 months then you should already be on Vitamin D milk, so I would say it would be a very good idea to put him on a polyvisol, or poly vitamin. Hope this helps, it is what I did!

Absolutely! Young children especially need vitamins because they're going from the perfect world of a mother's body to the real world and the nourishment just isn't the same. They have vitamin drops that your doctor can prescribe/suggest. We got them when we were little kids every day. They tasted so good, we called 'em "Num Nums."

It couldn't hurt. Get the drops and put them in his milk or juice. I did that with both of my sons from early ages. Even now, they take chewables. Vitamins just serve as a back up to the food they should be eating but don't always do!

I have a 15 month old and he is on Tri-Vi-Flo vitamin drops and has been since he was 9 months old. At 18 months he will be going to chewables. If I was you I would call your doctors office and find out why your son is not on any.

If you don't have flouride in your water, then you might want to ask the doctor about them. In NY, only some areas have flouride in the water. Also, they're required to have a blood test at 9 months and 2 years old to check their hemoglobin (iron) and lead levels. If your son hasn't had it, ask the doc for one to test, and if his iron is low, then see about the vitamins.

As your doctor. As long as he is eating fruits and veggies and gaining weight he is getting the nutrients he needs.
Write down his food intake each day for a week and take a copy to the doctor so he can tell you either way.
