I am from the 1960's there was a prediction of a ice age the oceans were dying and in 20 years they would be finish, the population of the earth would reach 50 billion by 2020 I could go on and on but as you can tell I have a lot of skepticism about the sky is falling crowd.

To be quite honest with you, being a "60s" baby and all, the whole environment seemed so much cleaner, in the 60s & 70s!! I'm from the Big City, and even our beach was so clean when I was growing up, and the air was fresh smelling, and then I slowly watched it get more & more, poluted over the years, until I began having children and it seemed no matter what time of the year it was (by the time I had my youngest) it was always humid, in LongBeach Ca. And we're talking breaking out in a sweat in the middle of winter, muggy!! I never remembered it being like that there as a child..... That's when I decided to move my kids out of the Big City!! That & Gangs!! But to my recollection not one thing was mentioned about "Global Warming" to me, through my mom who always watched the news, or from friends, or anyone!!! The air was much cleaner, and nicer climates all year round' in the 70s, you know.... Now, we live in a really small desert town, and its in a Valley, and we love it here!!! My kids dont know what the beach was like, they were too young, and I wouldn't allow them to swim it , if someone paid us, anyway!! Not in Long Beach!!! And the polution is just terrible now, in comparison to the 70s !!! Its so sad.... Did you hear about the 3 football fields of ice melting into the ocean, here recently? I think it was either in Alaska, or one of those all year long snow states...... Its so sad!!! I have a picture of a polar bear hugging a small peice of ice, like it was his pillow, because of everything around him being melted !! Its just heart-breaking !!!!

In 1975, Wallace Broecker published a paper entitled: "Climate Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?
Some info about that article is here:
http://members.aol.com/trajcom/private/broecker.htm
Just doing a basic search in an online database I found many articles that mostly talked about dust and the ozone.
Here's a link to the fact that they predicted a "Global Cooling" in the 70's:

As I recall. Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace were warning about the effects of pollution on the environment in the early 70s.
The Governments called them extremists and idealists. They were ignored because of financial greed. This government could do so much tomorrow but like all governments are only interested in profits and political gain. We could restrict the number of cars per family for those not using them for work. Stop the sale of high energy bulbs. Lower train fares. Increase public transport. Replace plastic packaging where possible etc etc. It is all down to what makes money. It's easier to bury your head in the sand! Accuse the public of being irresponsible with waste and any other angle that avoids the issue.

In 1970, global temperature was 0.5 under average along last century. Now it is 0.7 above. One degree is the difference between iceage and interglaciar periods.
Amount of GHG in the atmosphere was half of current amounts
Therefore, probably it was not a concern. People who lived in 70´s probaly could not imagine that we would reach current values, they would be really scared if they knew

In the 70s North America and Europe were actually cooling due to vast smog clouds that blocked the suns rays from reaching the surface. Throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as improvements were made in air quality (thanks to environmentalists) that effect has largely disappeared.
Believe it or not, it's true.
