why can't the same states and schools teach the Bible. Give equal time to the Bible, the qu'ran, and evolution.

d'chino'm yes evolution is tossed in there for it is a theory many base their belief upon... therefore it is also a "religion" and not only science.

keentok... most of our schools have been ban having a Bible in the library, but they can have the quran.
Since it is "freedom of Religion" .. I demand the BIBLE to be put back in our schools. ( but who listens these days on the demands of the Christians?)

Go figure. It is because they want to be politically correct, and they use the reason is they want the kids to understand what Islam is all about. The problem with this is what they teach is a sugar coated version of what they want the kids to learn only, not what it is really all about. I know I have read several of those topic that they so called teach those kids. God help us all from those PC politicians.
They say there should be a separation between the Church and the state, but when it comes to Islam, that rules seems to be ignored. Kids are Not allowed to mention God, the Bible, Jesus, or anything related to religion, and yet they want to teach about the Koran and Islam!! that is contradiction at it's best.
ADD:
For those who are trigger happy and thumb my answer down. In several Islamic country they don't even permit people to worship as they wish never mind teach the Bible. Oh please people, get your head out of the sand and face the fact. The US wants to please the Muslims and they don't think how some Muslims don't even permit other religion to practice their faith. For example Saudi, they don't let any one to practice their religion not even in private.
I am all for teaching the kids about the people and their culture, but the religion No. There is a good reason why the Church and state should remain separate. Teach evolution in science classes, the Bible in Sunday school, and the Quran in the Mosques.
For those who gave me thumbs up. THANK YOU. I am a logical person. I don't mean to offend anyone, and that is the truth. If I hit a nerve, not my intention. I just from what I read so far on those subject being taught at these schools, I find them basiclly a sugar coated verison, just my opinion. Thank you all again for taking the time and reading my opinion.
Peace to one and ALL
Add:
I am with you. If they want to teach the Quran then it is only fair to teach the Bible as well.

I'm muslim and I totally agree. The other thing I think is TERRIBLE is teachers or classes that have students repeat the Shahada, or the testament of Islamic faith. As a muslim, it's not a game or a fun cultural experiment to say those words. It's a declaration of faith in Islam.
To make it classwork makes it frivelous. I think schools should teach about the culture of Islam, which obviously would be based on some verses of the Qur'an, but students shouldn't be told they have to read the Qur'an for homework sake. They should do it of their own volition.

Hello =)
Equal time to Q'uran, Bible, and Evolution??
Bible and Q'uran would both be elective courses, I'm sure....as "religion" or "mythology" or "culture" or something similar..
Evolution is biology, and is not a philosophy. Trying to understand the nature of life by saying that "On the 5th day, God created the single celled organism"...simply does not work as a functional model.....
There is nothing wrong with believing in creationism, but working with evolution as a science. Many have done so, and continue to do so.
It is much like Math. I personally do not believe that parabolic equations represent any sort of shapes or forms, but yet, in algebra, I had to work under the premise that they did.
Namaste,
--Tom

Agreed. They can all be taught in literature class.
My literature class did have the book of Job, along with the Iliad and the Canterbury Tales. They are interesting works of fiction that tell us volumes about the state of society at the time.
Although, if the Koran is being taught as a religious truth, then expect to see some lawsuits, as public schools are not supposed to endorse any religious view.

Teaching any religious notion in the public schools is a bad idea. The bias of the teacher would affect the material offered.

I no idea what all the fuss is about....
When I went to school I learned about the bible, a little of Islam, Judaism and various other world religions - in religious education.
The idea is to educate people...
To educate and to preach are very different things, but for some reason not everyone gets this.

The smartest idea would to make it so every school recieves funding in proportion to the number of students who attend. That way everyone could send their kid to a school that taught the religion of their choice, and people without a religion could send their kids to a school without one at all.
In England they do this, I believe.

If a school was teaching the Qu'ran but not the Bible, there had better be some fired up parents! If we allow one thing, but not the other, these "seperation of church and state" people had better be making a scene! That is absolutely ridiculous. No way, not at any school my child attends.

A basic overview of all major religions belongs in a high school sociology class. You might additionally cover them in Literature.
Evolution is NOT a religion and it belongs in general science probably starting about fifth grade. It should be taught extensively in every Biology class since it is the ENTIRE biases for modern Biology. It should not share "equal time" since you can't teach Biology without it.
