I bought this car used with 72000 miles, now it has 76000
after i bought it, ive read on the internet how smooth this car should be to drive. Everywhere i read says its silky smooth and and engine is the smoothest thing ever. I don't see mine as that smooth, in fact its not as smooth as other cars i have. I replaced the broken o2 senors and there seems to be nothing wrong with it. Why isn't it smooth? is something else broken?? (ive also noticed that it becomes smoother after its been warmed up, turned off, and then turned back on)

The maximas of that year had issues with airflow meters, ignition coils (there are 6, one for each cylinder and should be replaced as a set), and catalytic converters. Any one of these could be a likely cause, or none of them. The problem is that you need some sort of scanner to properly read engine component measurements to narrow down the cause of your problem - even if there is no check engine light.

Guessing will be expensive on this particular car so my advice is to take it to a Nissan dealer at least for a check out (or at least a mechanic familiar with your Nissan). Pay the diagnostic fee so at least you know what is wrong and they won't go any further without your authorization. Some shops roll the diagnostic charge into the total cost of repairs.

One quick check is to pull a spark plug. Japanese cars only run good with NGK plugs ( or champion OEM import platinum plugs). They are not cheap - maybe $11 each for maximas - part number PFR5G-11. If you bought your car used, it's highly unlikely the place / person you got it from did any work to it.

HHMMM could be a couple of culprits--Look at the engine/transmissions mounts, Look at the Harmonic Dampener on the frontside of the crankshaft. Are the Injectors possibly clogged?? and if it is more of a heat related issue--DO you have the right oil in it??? Try a switch to a synthetic 5W-30 either Royal Purple or AMSOIL I prefer AMSOIL since you only have to change it every 25K miles. http://www.amsoil.com if amsoil is too pricey then I would recommend either Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. and PLEASE Stay away from Quaker Sludge

You probably have a bad ignition coil or coils. You should be getting a code though.
