Why would anyone assume just because I, or someone else disagrees with them that it's hate? I see that a lot here, and though I DO see a lot of hateful things, I dont think disagreeing means hate by default. I love a few people with all my heart, yet I dont agree with everything they do or think. That doesnt get in the way of me loving them. No one agrees with me on everything, but I know it isnt hate.
The most popular "hate" argument is that many Christians don't agree with homosexuality. Well fine, why does anyone have to? Does it mean they have to hate them then? Yes, some Christians HATE Homosexuals, and so do some from other religions and Atheists as well. But why assume that disagreeing means hate in that regard? Doesn't that burn any bridges to understanding either side?
My best friend in the whole world is gay, and I dont agree with his lifestyle but I would happily take a bullet for him. Do you think I hate him?

We disagree quite frequently and I don't hate you. We just disagree on some things.
I have problems with people that hate. I've been on the receiving end of hate a few times....
I think that is the difference between Christinsanity and Christaliciousness.

It's "hate" if you deliberately harm or otherwise infringe on the basic rights of another person because you don't agree with their "lifestyle", when this person has done nothing to harm you or others. It's also "hate" if you claim special privileges or standing because of your beliefs, while denying those same privileges to others such as opposing equal protection and benefits for gay couples and gay parented families.
It wasn't that long ago that Evangelical Christians were barricading school doors to keep out black kids and fighting against interracial marriage, yet they undoubtedly claimed that these were acts of love as well.
If, on the other hand, you respect your friend's right to live his own life as he sees fit, don't believe in punishing those that disagree with you (and their loved ones), and believe that everyone should have the right to equal protection and treatment regardless of whether or not they conform to your religious beliefs, then no, you are not hateful.

I agree with you... and no I don't love you in case a yahoo answer's priest offers to marry us.
My dad is devout catholic, I could say he hates homosexuaIITY, he hates the idea of it, and seeing it displayed. But he doesn't hate homosexuals in person, he's taken my friend in almost like a son.
He knows he cant pre-judge anyone because his priest is gay anyway.
Christians are not christians if they judge anyone, so let them hate people and fall in the eye of the lord.
"Forgive them for they not know what they do" has never been more appropriate for the christians of today!!! well actually ever!!
I'm my own believer (with catholic influences) but I'm hurt that my boyfriend will not marry in a church..... I don't hate him though, and I still want to marry him, I'm not mature at all because I threw a massive hissy fit, so I don't think that not hating anyone takes maturity.
It takes accepting that you're selfish and you wont always get what you want.

Yes, you can disagree without hatred, but it takes more maturity and less fear. I think the reason so many people *do* hate something they don't understand is because their own uncertainties make them fear it--like all those idiots who fear that being around homosexuals will make *them* gay, or that homosexuals are actively out recruiting :-) It scares them and, like a frightened dog who's more likely to attack, they lash out.
Or, to a lesser extent, they try to legally limit the rights of the people they fear.
I'm glad to know you aren't one of those people! FWIW, my best friend in the whole world is verrrrrry Christian, and I'm not. While we don't wholly understand each other's points of view, we agree to disagree, and we certainly don't hate each other.

I wouldn't give someone who disagrees with me the satisfaction of hatred. Hatred is as destructive to the hater as it is to the hated.
However, I won't say it doesn't anger me when someone's reaction to the question "What is Wicca" includes a ton of scripture, citing "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" as their definition of what Wicca is. It's great to know there are people out there who actually think I shouldn't be allowed to live because I believe in the Goddess as well as the God and that nature is divine. Then they wonder why people "hate" Christians.

I think one way that some move past disagreement and into hate is when they tell us that we will burn in their god's hell for all eternity if we don't mend our ways. it comes across sounding more hateful than anything else. but thank you for your pointing out the distinction, it IS important that people realize that arguing is not the same has hating! i personally enjoy debates with friends and foes alike, so much so that i will take any side just to create a debate over a point, if it's important. to me it is more important that people can defend their own beliefs first, before they start teaching others.

The majority of hate that I see on this forum is in the form of questions that are meant to demean a group of people.
There is a good bit of that kind of activity here.
I do not expect Atheists or Homosexuals to agree with me, but the snide and disparaging remarks do concern me.
Debate is fine, attacking the debater should not exist.

No, disagreeing doesn't have to mean "hate". You have a big heart, and some wisdom which is lacking amongst those who disagree and hate.

It depends on how or why you disagree.
If you say something like I wish you go to hell for believing what I don't. that's hate.
Not only you disagreed but you also insulted that person.
But in your case about homosexuals, I don't think that's hate.
