And if you think your mail carrier does not read them, think again, LOL. My Dad, mail carrier, read them, not the personal communication so much, mostly just the printed message that said what the picture on the front was. They all read them. Everyone in the office.

If there's a long message I usually don't, but if it just has a few words 'greetings from...' I'll usually read it just to see who/where the card's from, that is impersonal enough that I'll satisfy my curiosity.
I see postcards for others quite a bit 'cause I always get the mail out for the neighbors during their vacation, and they're retired so they leave for about two months every summer. I always look at their mail with a bit more scrutiny than I would if they were gone for a few days; I'm supposed to spot things like death notices & or overdue bills & mail them about things like that... and also of course I double-check the address, once or twice there was a letter delivered to the wrong address & I could drop it off at the correct person right away rather than have it sit there for the entire two months. So then I don't feel too nosy when looking at a postcard; as a fast reader, I take in a single sentence at a glance automatically! If they're only gone for the weekend I'll usually only take it out of the box and I won't even leaf through it to see if there _is_ a postcard or bill or whatever.

I can't remember exactly, but sometimes it may happened if we speak about postcards, which are without envelope of course.
