problem when opening MS Office 97 desktop shortcuts?

Why, what am I do wrong?

When I open MS off. 97 Excel link from a Desktop Shortcut I get:
xx.xls is already open. Reopening will cause any change you made to be
discarded. Do you want to reopen xx.xls YES or NO

----------------------------------

When I open a MS off. 97 Word Desktop Shortcut I get:
xx.doc is being used by XX XXXX. Do you want to make a copy?
OK or Cancel (option) what causes it?

or

Do you want to revert to the saved "xxxxx"? YES or NO (option)

Are you running any of the Office programs that are listed in the warnings? To find out, click on CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up Windows Task Manager. Click on the Applications tab to see what's running. If there are instances of Office running that you don't want to have running, highlight the application, and click on "End Now". Then try again with your shortcuts. Good luck.

i anticipate you've rebooted the device? someway be conscious believes the document is open. I dont remember if be conscious shops thisin the registry. you may try operating "regedit.exe" andsee if the the be conscious document call shows in teh registry, and then delete that registry get entry to.
