Depends on your budget, If it is cheap and cheerful try booking online with www.bcninternet.com They also do some pretty upscale apartments too. I would reccommend apartments over hotels as you get more for your money.
If you want to try some really cool experiences in the city, try this site www.lifestylebarcelona.com

Try looking on venere.com they usually have some great deals. I have heard that at night the barri gotic area can be a little unsafe and staying on Las Ramlas (the main street) can be quite noisy. The transport in Barcelona is excellent, especially the subway, I would advise getting a pass for it as it works out cheaper in the long run and they can be bought from any underground station.

I was there last weekend and stayed at hotel raco del pi.
It's about 2 min walk from las ramblas and right by a nice little square with cafes and a couple of shops. It's also only a 2 min walk from one of the cathedrals.
The actual hotel was really nice and reasonable, i think it was 80 euros for a double room, they were clean and modern and comfy. Although a friend was staying in a single room which was only 5 euros cheaper and her room was very small.
Staff were friendly and as a couple of bonuses you get a glass of cava when you arrive and there's free internet.
Hope this helps

I'm off there next week and got a good deal from expedia.co.uk. Generally, accommodation in the Old Town is very expensive, so I have found a hotel (Hotel Medium Confort) about five metro stops away. I'd suggest trying expedia, since I haven't found a better deal anywhere else.
