Same reason why liberals want to turn America into a nanny state of their views.
Don't eat trans fats
Don't smoke
Don't drive SUVs
Don't have guns
Don't say the N word
Don't say joke that may offend people
Don't read punish your children
Teach any religion in school but Christianity
If someone breaks into your house and is shooting you don't shoot back because that person who broke is just a victim.
Believe only what science we want you to believe and never ever question it. That is bad to question science. Expect for genetical eng. food that is bad.
Don't every question the law of evolution if you do mention it is a theory you will be case out.
As far as similar views if youdo have someone of science who question lets say global warming they are nuts and need to be publicly flogged.
I would suggest before you question Christian Conservatives I would work on yourself for a while first.

Religion is all about control!
This fantasy God was made up as a means by which to control the masses through fear! It shouldn't be a surprise that those who buy into the control ideas of this religion would want to control everyone else!

Everyone has the free will to make their own decisions. God won't force you to do anything. He knew we wouldn't be able to be perfect and the commandments are to show us where we fall short, which we all do. He did however make a way to Him for us, and his name is Jesus. Again, you have the free will to except, or reject that Way.

Power and control.
If they can control what we learn, think, and do their power will be absolute.
They are trying to get back to the good old days, you know, the dark ages.

Hear hear! My personal mantra has always been "As long as whatever you're doing involves consenting adults and doesn't hurt anyone else, go for it!"

They don't. True morality can really only be achieved from within--that's one of Christ's main messages (see the Sermon on the Mount for example)--not by forcing it from without. What Christian do you know has crusaded for smoking to be banned? Or for certain books to be illegal? etc.
