Both require tons of cash to sustain themselves.
Both require sponsors if you want to be able to really compete.
Both require a special Driver's license and training.
Both have pit crews.
Both have dedicated fans.
Both have beautiful babes wearing tanktops walking around.
COMPARISON TO FORMULA 1 RACING:

Yeah, I'm sure your street car has 800 hp. Drag racing rocks the world, but Nascar is fun also. Anybody can go fast in a straight line. If a teenage girl can do it, how hard can it be? On the other hand, every single person with a heartbeat needs to attend an NHRA or IHRA national event at least once. Walk the pits, rub elbows with he big guys, and feel the ground shake and see the sky burn. It's all over way too quick, but Nascar has nothing like a Top Fuel dragster. Total Sensory Overload! - bring earplugs

While I do enjoy going to a NASCAR event, I enjoy NHRA more. There's something about 2, 8,000hp cars going past you side-by-side at 300mph that give me an instant woody. NHRA is more fan friendly too. As was answered, you get entire pit access and the drivers are more than happy to sign autographs and chat. After last years finale with 2 world records set, this year should be even better.
If you've never been to an NHRA event, go at least once if you can. TV doesn't do it justice. If you don't like it, at least you gave it a shot. There's still NASCAR.

Its all about what you like... Some NHRA fans cant understand Nascar, and the same with Nascar fans...
I am a huge Nascar fan, I try my best never to miss a race... I just recently started watching some NHRA just because its in HDTV...
You also have to factor in some of the fights and rivals that go on in Nascar... In NHRA you can run someone in the back and pass them by after getting them out of shape coming out of a turn... That to me is real racing.

Yes they are both under the 'Auto Racing' catagory, but two completely different types and objectives. As a racing 'Fan' attending events, I do prefer going to a NHRA event as opposed going to a NASCAR Cup event. NHRA is far more Fan friendly no matter what BP and DW claim, afterall, they can go anywhere they want, I got kicked out at Sears Point by NASCAR official Dennis Huth for using the wrong camera! At a NHRA event a ticket will get you FULL access to the pits, see the cars, watch them being rebuilt, fired up, get 'freebies', ask questions, and get as many driver autographs you wish. I've noticed that most people say they can't stand NHRA or Drag Racing, have NEVER been to a Drag Race. You just have to go to 'get hooked', feel the ground shake, sweet smell of Nitro, choking tire smoke, and ear shattering sounds, your not a spectator, your actually part of the action. Just don't get the Nitro fumes in your eyes, if your going to stand close, check the wind direction first. Been to many forms of racing, land, water, and air, but there's nothing, I mean NOTHING like hearing one of those 8000 hp engines being fired up!

how can you call a four second sprint a race? even if you make it through all the qualifing sprints you still are racing for less than 1 min. total.try sitting in a much heavier car for over 4 hours with no A/C in a cockpit that is over 130 degrees.it is not even a comparison.

NHRA sucks! If you dont like NASCAR then dont watch it you jackoff! The sport is better off without your support.
Good luck trying to get a 1000 people to watch NHRA unlike NASCAR that has millions of supporters!
