I mean in adults too, not just children . I'm not completely anal and overly bothered about perfect grammar etc, but when I regularly see adults writing thought as thourght and things like that I have to ask this question!

Yes but it has to be down to the parents as well as the schools.

I have a child that is in kindergarten and I have actually been quite impressed by the amount that he has learned in just a few months. He started the year barely being able to read and now he reads very well. I think the standards of literacy have improved because my child is learning things in kindergarten that I didn't learn until grade 2. He has also been learning how to count my 2's an by 10's. But he has a very good teacher and that helps!!

Yes it is awful, what makes me mad is the teachers in our school, we have 3 NQT's at the moment and their spelling is dire. One of the teacher spelt juicy, like this juicey what the hell, these are university graduates obviously not in English.
