No, it's quite acceptable for a 14 year old to babysit.
I wouldn't leave them all day, but I'd see no problem with an hour or two.
My kids are 14, 12 and 9. I let the 14 year old babysit now, but I would be in and out a lot to make sure everything was ok. I've also gone out for an early dinner, but would be sure to be back by 9.30 at the latest.

No it is not, but I wouldn't do it. A 14 year old is not mature enough to handle the responsibilities of what can happen. I remember when I was 10 my older brother was suppose to watch me and my other brother he was 11. And my oldest brother got us into smoking, drinking, and running around on the street 1/2 the day while are parents were at work. He was only 13 but thats not much different than a 14 year old. Get someone a little older to watch your kids.

No its not illegal, however if anything happens to the 12 and 8 year old while you are out you can be held accountable by a judge.

It depends on what state it is. In wisconsin there is no legal age a child needs to be before babysitting . But babysitting classes start at 12 yrs old

I don't think it's illegal, but I'm not sure if it's wise. Does she act like a fourteen year old? Either way, there are positives and negatives. If she does, she will get along with your kids very well, but she won't do a very good job keeping them from danger. If she acts older, she may be talking on the phone to her boyfriend while she's supposed to be doing her job, therefore exposing your children to danger. But don't get all worried, I could be wrong.

No, it is not illegal. There is no legal age for babysitting.
However, could this 14 year old cope under any circumstances if something went wrong? That's something only you can judge.

I had a 14 year gilr old baby sit my son when he was 5 yrs old. My wife and I had to attend an Officers Meeting on Ft. Benning.
We got home and the babysitter was asleep on the couch and my son was watching porno on T.V.
The message here is that young babysitters sometimes can't be responsibile enough to watch your children.
I was shocked, but I think my son was too because he was glued to that screen and amazed.
We destroyed the tapes and to this day even now that my Son is grown, we don;t have porn tapes in the house,

I think legally 10 is the appropriate age for not needing care. Of course it depends on the child as well.
