My cat is very hyperactive that he plays with everything he lays his hands (paws) on. I wonder if is it because of his food or is it because he's often alone at home everytime I go to work. Does he lack attention?

Okay is this a cat or kitten? Kittens (6-8 months or less of age) are typically ALWAYS hyper! Once they hit the last months of kittenhood and move into their cat years they do slow down - some more than others. My 5-month old is very hyper, until she eats and gets warm in her blankie or a warm lap. Otherwise - Miracle is ruler of the house and the queen of terror! And this is with two 2-year-old cats around too!

A playmate might help - but then again it might not. A friend that is lazy and doesn't do much may make your cat just stay at it. Another hyper child could lead to double-trouble. And something more middle-of-the-road in activity level could possibly do either good or bad for your cat.

If you believe its food - then you should mention in here what food and I can help since I've had indoor cats for over 20 years and have talked to so many vets about what's good and what is not as well as having experience behind me. All of my kids have lived happy, healthy lives into their late teens so far and I've been blessed with their love and companionship - so hopefully with a few more details I can help :)

Make sure he gets neutered before he reaches 6 months of age, they tend to get the testosterone in them, and that promotes the hyperactivity.. a couple of months after they get neutered, they calm down a bit. As for the rest of it.. I had a hyper one that I just put down at 16 yrs old, and she required a lot of attention from me when I got home.. I used to have her chase the wand toys up the back of the couch or on the bed, so she'd have to jump up and down from the floor to tire her out quicker. It works really well! Good Luck!

I have the same problem at home and have done much research on the subject. Playing with them or buying toys helps for the moment. But soon they are up to thier old tricks again. And throwing them outside for the day, they learn to appreciate the things that are inside warmth, food and loving. Instead of living on the streets with the elements struggling to survive.I

Energy is a good thing in cats. Clearly your cat is receiving enough energy from food. Cats can sleep an incredible average of 20 hours out of each day. My guess is that he is a young adult?

Cats will instigate play time if they have a game they really enjoy and they want to interact with you.

People worry too much. :)

Cats.. hehe... when it comes to the time when they are really hyper.. you can`t do anything to stop them. My cat.. he used to hide in places like behind the couch.. waiting for a person to walk by.. then JUMP out catch their feet then run away.. in about 2 seconds later.. they did it again. They could jump under your blanket and try to hide from you then they want to to touch them then they would try to catch your fingers by using their paws. They`re just exited. Sometimes....they even try to impress you like show you what they can do. You should be really happy that your cat can do that. Eventually... they`ll stop..because they have to grow up.

The cat could well be acting that way because it sleeps when you are away. I've found that my cats sleep alot when i'm away and when I get home, they are ready to play.
This will dimish with age, so enjoy it now!!

My cat is extremely hyper too. I find it amusing. He will race around the house and sleep when he gets tired. He is almost 3 years old now and his energy level seems to have increased since I got him.

Cats- especially young cats- can be extremely active or even hyper. He'll calm down as he gets older. But you may have to teach him that some things (such as electrical cords) are not toys.

Good luck!

Your cat is hyperactive because it is a cat. That's what cats do only its not considered hyperactive its considered playful.

When my kity gets crazy like that, i put her in her carrier for a bit and she winds down. When i take her out we play chase the srting around the house and i let her run. It seems to be that they do that to get attention, yes.
