Also, I am mainly referring to normal every day perceptions and practises of the word. Not the extremes of these religions. eg Waco,Jones town, extremists.

Yes.
Technically...for argument's sake...if you believe in Christianity, then all other religions of the world are Satan's attempts to hide God's children from the truth. This includes evolution, which I believe evolution and Christianity can co-exist without one denying the other. There's not one word in the Bible that says God is not in favor of Natural Selection.

There is a major difference between spiritual belief and religion. The act of religion itself, the practice and ceremony, the tradition, etc. is itself a tool of manipulation (whether intended to or not). Therefore I believe that yes, religions cannot help but manipulate the minds of the followers whether the religion be Christian based or not. My personal and spiritual beliefs are seperate from religion so in a large way I am free from that control. It wasn't always this way for me and I am still on this journey.
By the way, it is my experience that manipulation is not reserved to extremists or charismatic leaders. Religious practice and ceremony itself becomes a form of mental manipulation and control.

religious indoctrination is the mosre SURE way of mind control whether it be muslim, catholic or Jew.
Get someone to believe in a twisted dogma and attatch the name of God to it and WOW you have a person reacting to everything you say and command.
false christianity has done it in the catholic church for centuries.
claiming the authority of Peter, whether it is justified or not.
as for being under the influence of hypnotism, post hypnotic suggestions or total and complete possession, the scholars of our day debate this truth whether true or not all the time.
It is easy to put somone in a trance through techniques of sorcery and mind control and many times out true mind control can be achieved through hypnotic narcotic drugs.
but not everyone can be beguiled or Mesmerized 100% of the time, there are envioronmental conditions that can break a spell at any given moment. And many people can be tricked into doing what They would NOT do if left alone.
The people that do these criminal acts are the ones who have the syringe and the needle, They are the source of the mind control they arethe ones who will be sent to hell, unless they Repent. The person who is mesmerized might have to be locked up but there is sufficient proof that God will have mercy on them more than the other.

It depends if the persons are understanding their belief or not. If I understand what I believe and why, then nothing can manipulate that. Therefore, other non-Christian religions will very much confirm the followers belief. If a Christian doesn't understand why they believe what they believe, the other religions may be able to provide them with a reason for why they believe, but not manipulate them. NO

I believe that all religions can be used in this way. I'm thinking of Jonestown, Waco, Jim Baker, Jerry Falwell, 9/11, and Iraq.

Any time you combine a charismatic leader with people who need guidance, you can have manipulation. Islamic extremists, Hitler, Stalin, Shinto kamikaze pilots, etc.
