They can search for a job out to a year from the time you are in MEPS. But the career counselor will try and sell you on something else.

The time of year doesn't matter much, it all depends how many boat spaces are available at the beggining of the year for each MOS. Every MOS opens with a certain number every year and alot of recruiters will lie and say there aren't any open "seats" he is full of ****. Tell them you want the job or your not enlisting, it's just that simple and it's how I got my MP job, and see how fast they "trade" or "acquire" your MOS. Don't fall into the bullshit, they don't have quotas to fill but they get thier asses chewed for not performing and letting someone not join because of a job is unacceptable (I was a USMC recruiter for 4 years, trust me they get yelled at for not getting jobs for MEPS recruitees). Tell them that u want this this and this or you are walking out, you can get pretty much whatever you want....

Depend on what branch you are wanting to join. They change the manning requirements all the time. What is available today might not be tomorrow.

BUT...at the same time. DO NOT let the recruiter talk you into taking a job that you do not want. If you have an idea on what you would like to do, let them know. They are trained to push people into jobs that are severely undermanned. Which is understandable...but....this is YOUR career...YOUR life...

Thanks for serving!

the only time of year to avoid joining during is when the high school seniors are graduating. Chances are, all of them reserved jobs long ago and if you're not a senior and have no excuse not to ship out immediately (such as college courses) they will only give you jobs with open training seats in the next few months.

Like it was said before, make sure you get the job/school you want in writing, do not sign anything until you see what you want on paper.

Don't sign ANYTHING until you have the job you want GUARANTEED IN WRITING.

I'm serious. They'll tell you ANYTHING to get you to sign TODAY.

Don't do it until you have EXACTLY the deal you want --- and then read the fine print, where it says they don't have to really give it to you after all.
