i did accutane about 4 or 5 years ago. worked very well for me. although it is not the end all be all of acne treatments. my acne is back now. though not as bad. mostly stress related and because I have a habit of resting my hand on my chin.
That said, the best advise I can give you is invest in blistex medicated lip balm, and find a really good moisturizing. I had extremely dry chapped lips, and very dry skin. my lips were so dry they cracked in the corners.
i had pretty much acne free skin for about 3 years. But my stress levels have caused it to come back. I had very bad acne prior to accutane and my doctor had warned me that it could come back.
Be sure to wear spf 45 or higher when you go in the sun. If you are getting anything waxed, especially eyebrows and upper lip, you will have to stop. I tried to continue my eyebrows, but my upper eyelid skin was so thin and delicate I ended up with burns.
If you are sexually active, you will need to use two forms of protection, ie pill plus condom. Accutane can cause massive birth defects. It will also slightly elevate your cholesterol. Mine went up about 10 points.

Hello, I am a 26 year old male and I had severe acne from rougly 17 years old untill about 21 or 22 years old. It was terrible, and I was very self conscious about it each and every day. Anyway, I tried many medications from the Dermatologist and they just made my face dry and red. I used Accutane and it was a MIRACLE drug. Dont believe anything you hear about being depressed or hair loss. Common sense tells you that if your acne is going away, that you wont be depressed. The ONLY side-effect I had was very very dry lips. But you can use really strong lip balms to help that out. I usually globbed on a ton right before bed. So yeah, the ONLY side effect was dry lips but who cares, the acne was going away, and going away FAST.. It is the best EVER !!! Message me on aol IM at billnet500 if you have any questions about it.

I used it many years ago and it was helpful but I strongly urge you to use sunscreen and stay out of the sun while taking it. I still remember an awful sunburn that I got because I forgot to put on sunscreen and was outside all day wearing a tank top. Also, do not wax your legs while taking this medication. I had gone to the salon for a leg wax and she forgot to ask if I was on any medication. After she applied the first strip and removed it, I had a tanless spot on my leg and concluded it must be the Accutane. Needless to say, I didn't proceed with the leg wax and was much more careful after that about the sun, etc. Just pay attention if you start noticing side effects, etc., and call your doctor.

My boyfriend used it for quite a while when we were still in high school, maybe 99-01? It took a while to see a difference, but once it started it worked quite well. It was the only thing that had worked for him, and not to be gross, but he did have some large painful pimples (even on his neck and back), and it worked well for those. But about 6 months after he went off the medication they did return, but not as severe. As he's gotten older his skin has improved, too. I believe while he was on it they stressed not to go outside without sunscreen, and be very careful about birth control/pregnancy. Also, try hard not to pop or pick at the pimples, some will leave scars for life if you do. It also for some reason made his lips very dry, so make sure you keep some chapstick handy! Hope this helps!

I tried Accutane last year, well that's the dermatologist prescribed, aside from being too expensive there's a lot of side effects too, but after months of taking it, my acnes stop appearing. I had very severe type of acnes, the ones that are big and you feel the bumps inside and really hurt when you touch it, so I have no choice really, good thing it worked. (I tried proactive but its not for me).
It will get worse on your firsts, second month of using accutane, and you will notice the difference on your third month, I used it for 5 months.
You will be so sensitive under the sun, use large amount of SPF, i used coppertone 45 oil-free, and also it will make your skin too dry, drink water, use moisturizer even at night. I used Carmex for my lips too, it tends to be all crack and dry, Carmex really works.
Don't drink alcohol too, no tanning, no microderma.. , no waxing, and don't get pregnant.
well goodluck, hope this helps.

My friend used Accutane and it really helped her skin. She had really bad breakouts that left scars & now she doesn't.
Be sure to stay out of the sun and always wear sunscreen.
Drink lots of water and moisturize to keep your skin from drying out.
Avoid getting pregnant because this medication can harm the fetus.

I took accutane for four months and experienced just about every side effect. For me personally it was nothing i couldnt handle.
Just be honest with your doctor when you have your monthly check up.
