You file what ever your status is on Dec. 31st of the tax year you are filing for.

Taxes are for 06. You were single in 06. You could file married if you'd gotten married on Dec 31st.

What you are filing are 2006 income taxes and you weren't married then. So, the question you are asking applies to next year's taxes. At that point you will need to decide if you want to file married jointly or married but filing separately.

Your filing status will be whatever it was as of December 31, 2006. In this case you were single so that is how you will file.
