not sure theres actually a limit but for safetys sake i woulndnt trust a child younger than 14yrs old to look after a sibling, depending on the age of the younger child but saying that if one child is around 8/9yrs old i would have said being left with a 12/13yr old would be ok! it really does depend on the children involved and how much you trust them!

I think thats totally up to the parents to decide. If there is a legal age then i am not aware of it. I would say a sensible 13/14 year old could easily look after younger siblings, if someone is available on a mobile and can get back home quickly. It depends if the little ones will obey him or her. When my youngest was 3, my eldest was 12 and perfectly au fait with my routine and could cope easily for a short period (say 2 hours).

Sensible people won't think of a set age and look more at the maturity and how well said older teenager could cope in a crisis.
You need to test this out as only way to find out is to fix something up and not tell them its a test.
It may be a 15 year old can cope far more then a 19 year old and be more responsible

Babysitting and the law
There is no minimum age set in law when a young person is allowed to babysit for a child, however where the responsibility lies is very clear.
If you are under 16 years of age
If an adult leaves a child in the care of another person under the age of 16 years and something happens to the child the responsibility rests with the parents.
If you are over 16 years of age
The law states that a person is guilty of neglect if they are over 16 and the person neglected is under 16.

When I was younger I was allowed to lookafter my sisters from the age of 14 but I heard that they changed it and you can look after siblings from 13 and other peoples children from 14 But I would think that 14 would be the yougest I would leave my kids

There is no actual legal age to look after children, but if you leave a child under 16 years baby sitting then you are still legally responsible for them all. If anything should happen you are responsible

This is tricky, as legally there is no lower age limit. However, whilst your children are in the care of anyone below the age of 16, you are still legally responsible, and you would be considered guilty of neglect in the event of any problems.

I think it depends on where you live and how close to a city you live.
I was told that it's 14 in my area, but I'm not completely sure. And there are 13 year old baby sitters a few neighborhoods down from mine.
Hope it helps at least a little.

personally I wouldn't use anyone under the age of 14.
I think that is the age for a girl anyway and 16 for a boy.
you're also best getting references!
