It depends on the type of window sticker. If it is an inspection sticker, you should go down to the DMV, or check your states DMV website to find the answer. Some of these vary from city to city, so you may need to actually drive down to your nearest DMV center to find the info you need. Bring a book, it may be a while.

If it is a DOD sticker (little white decal with blue letters and writing on the bottom that says 'Department of Defense') and you are in the military or work on a Department of Defense installation, you need to go to the nearest military base or DOD decal issuance location and get it updated to match your DOD ID card.

If you are talking about the temporary registration for a new car, then yes, you should have received license plates and registration sticker by the time the temporary sticker expires (30 days in California I believe). Check your paperwork to make sure the dealer reported your correct address with the DMV.

I'm not sure what state you are in, but here in NY there are two stickers. Your registration and your inspection sticker. The inspection sticker has to be updated every year. If your inspection sticker has expired, you have to go down to an autorized inspection mechanic, and he will run the necessary test to determine if your car can run on the road. if its the registration sticker, you have to go down to your local DMV and re-register your car. Normally, if your registration is about to expire, you can re-register online. Usually you are supposed to receive a notice in the mail to renew your registration But since it has expired, you would have to go down to your DMV. You should also try and get your stickers up to date immediately because you can receive a ticket if you dont have up to date stickers.
