A dog will enter her first heat when she is approximately 6 months old and will continue to have one every 6 months for most of her life. This means she will have two heats in a year. It is advisable not to breed your dog until she is over 2 years old, because till then she is not emotionally or most importantly physically ready to have a litter of pups.

The heat cycle for a dog is normally 3 weeks. It breaks down like this: one week coming into heat, one week in heat and one week coming off heat. The first week she will bleed, suffer mood changes, may go off her food or consume more and her bladder will seem to have shrunk to the size of a peanut. During this first week other dogs will take notice in her and begin sniff around and pestering her, and trying to mount her. But she wont let them mount her until the 11th day she is in heat. You have to be very careful with her when she is in heat, even up to the last week, so dogs dont get at her and impregnant her.

Best of Luck!!

First off it is not called a period! !

She is in estrus.

The cycle runs three weeks.

Buy you some books and learn all about it. The more you know about dogs the better owner you will be.

even as my dogs become in warmth it lasted fairly a lot 4 weeks. i'm satisfied you're growing her spayed, it truly is going to offer up the bleeding and warm temperature cycles. in reality, my dogs bled for one of those lengthy time period, she had to positioned on a diaper for it. Even after she stopped bleeding, I took her to the vet to be spayed, and that i become advised she become nonetheless in warmth, so i wager it would want to very last more, even without the bleeding.

About 3 weeks. One week going in (bleeding) one week in full-fledged heat, and one week going out. Can vary by dog, though. Your best bet is to get her spayed and not have to worry about it anymore!
