Loving caring supportivte and lots of patience and not to be afraid to discipline either. Children want limits set ...they do much better when they have rules. Parents must be Consistent with discipline...its tough not to give in but if we want their respect we have to follow the rules we set for them.

Warmth and consistency. The downfall with discipline is lack of consistency. Consistent discipline with warmth is what makes a good parent.

Loving, Nurturing, has routines, pays attention to hygeine, plays with their kids, makes a point to encourage learning, honesty, discipline.
Downfalls include not following through on discipline, loosing our tempers too easily and yelling at them (this is something I am ashamed to say I do).

Do not give in to whining or bad behavior ever.
Always show love even when you a mad as hell.
Always forgive and demonstrate forgiveness.
Personally I spank but only rarely for big and repeat offences.
It is more effective if you don't do it often.
