My 11 week old German Shepherd pup, eats his own poo. He literally turns around with great pride as to say "Oops, did I do that, let me get rid of it for you", is there any solutions to this like putting something in his food that will make his poo taste bad.?

Yes, there is! Go to your local pet store and buy some Coprophagia tablets! Dogs love them. The taste good going in, but make the poo unappetizing when it comes out.

You'll probably have to use these for a while so you can break the habit, but they worked for my dog!

Good luck!

Hi Autumn!!
It is Coprohagia is the technical term.
Look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Coprophagia/

This is a very common problem of all puppies. Stool-eating is called coprophagy but its causes are not known. Some studies say the animal is trying to get a lacking nutrient. Some say it is a result of frustration and anxiety. A mother will clean the waste after the puppies until they start eating solid food. One reason why he may be eatting poo is becuase he is being disciplined the wrong way.

Another reason is that dogs are naturally very clean. He is just cleaning up after herself... there are a few tips that may help: Ask your vet whether he stocks “4-BID” (or a food additive MSG) that will cause the stool to have repulsive taste. (I know, how more repulsive are we talking here?!). Treat all your pet’s stools with sprinkled pepper or chilli (loads of it!). When he wants to eat a stool, interrupt him by using a squirt bottle, then give him a treat and play with him.

That is natural! And most dogs do it cuz they have worms so go to the vet and get a dewormer and worm him for a couple of days or how ever long the vet says and if he doesn't stop don't worry bout it!

sometimes when they do that it's because they are not getting all the vitamins that they need (I know wierd huh) but there is stuff you could buy at pets mart to put in their food and it should stop this behavior.

The easiest thing to do it pick up after him. Without poop on the ground to eat, he can't eat poop!

My other dog did that. God rest her. My mom smacked her with the paper when she caught her doing it. Eventually she stopped.
