I'm going to try this again - I've asked twice, and have yet to get any information I'm looking for. I request that you not answer if all you're going to do is put down what trans-fats do/cause.

I'm looking for experiments, studies, medical research that brought the medical community to know about trans-fats.
I'm really interested in how members of the scientific and medical world came to the conclusions that they did. What studies were done? How many studies? In your opinion, were they fair and scientifically sound?

I've especially gotten interested in this after seeing some other points of view, for example:

Trans-fats may be horrible for you, but somewhere out there someone else must want to know how conclusions were reached without just believing... Thank you for the input!

First to answer your question, Try this link:

This is what I typed first before I found some info. in our USDA info site:
I will make this short since I am not going to answer your question. Studies must be funded. How many studies do you see about Caffeine, Cell Phones, Sucralose, safety of the current Birth Control Pill? The answer is few to none. Studies are funded by government or private industry. Private industry wants to continue to make profits, government wants to stay in power. Proving that trans-fats, or any of the above, are bad does not fullfil either of these goals. Recently polititians have been unable to ignore the overwellming negative effects of trans-fats, so they have been forced to address them.

So, you are right in trying to get hard evidence to support a stance one way or the other on the Trans-fats issue. But keep in mind that there is an overwelming force that wants trans-fats, and everything else I mentioned, to be "Safe". For over 60 years there was an overwelming force that wanted to keep cigaretts "Safe". I will not be a victim just because the system wants to perpetuate itself.

So, if you see 1 study that says trans-fats are bad, and 100 that say it is safe, understand how tough it was to complete and publish that one study.

Try this page: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/reviews/transfats.html

I didn't read the whole article, but it looks like it's a review of a lot of studies. It also seems to have references to a lot of other actual research articles.

Hope this helps...
