you should eat at an absolute minimium 1200 calories per day.
it takes burning 3500 more calories than you take in to lose 1 pound.
figure out your ideal calorie intake to maintain your current weight, then reduce the amount of calorie intake by 15% to lose weight safely and by doing it this way you are more likely to 1) keep the weight off & 2) build habits that help you eat healthy thus making 1) more likely to last longer.
exercise is great!!
Please remember, you can lose fat, gain muscle, but weigh the same but be slimmer and healthier!

If you just had a baby it will take some time for your body to get back to pre-baby shape. When you go to the gym you should do both cardio and weight lifting.
It's best not to think about "losing weight" but rather being a healthy weight and body shape for you. (Also if you are breast feeding that may add pounds to your total)

if you just had a baby and breast feeding then you should not take too many calories away. You have to eat enough to support your bodies ability to provide milk for your baby. If you aren't breast feeding then you don't have to over do the gym part. Your baby needs your energy for him/her. Eat healthy and exercise is all you will need.

i would recommend around 1250 calories per day if you are aiming to use less than a stone. Also make sure your fat intake is less than 49grams. It is important you keep you fat intake lower because it is much harder to burn fat than it is to burn calories. Also remember to have protein with each of your meals as it helps to keep your metabolism up to speed. Turkey is one of the best proteins to eat as it is low cal and low fat. It is also very versatile!
