Where is a good place online to find a wedding dress? And if you get a wedding dress and still need alterations, is it worth it? Or should you just buy it from a store and get the alterations done there?

Ebay!!! I am buying my dress from a designer in pennsylvania who specializes in making dresses similar to the ones found at davids bridal but way way cheaper. These dresses are all new and will arrive within a few weeks. They are really easy to work with and like I said CHEAP (my dress was 1300.00 at davids, the same dress, seriously I can't tell the difference is only 325.00 through this company). Bridal Images

David's bridal, but it's better if you go in the store. I am a fashion designer and I swore I was going to get a Vera Wang sample or nordstrom sample. I found out David's prices are not only great but the selection and style of the dress are great too.
Also they have payment plans and layaways plus sales and coupons.
The alterations actual depend on what style of dress it is and where it needs to be altered- like a hem is easy and cheap but if you have a small torso and need the dress to be taken apart and shorten- that's more expensive.

I agree that David's Bridal is a good store for cheap wedding gowns. However, it is a regional store, so if you don't live by one of the locations it is pretty useless. If you do live by a DB, don't use their in-store tailor. They will charge you so much more than you should pay! Also, make sure that you order in a brand new gown. Otherwise, they will try to give you the try-on dress..complete with tears and make-up smudges. (This has happened with both my sister and my best friend!)
You can always check the Knot or the Wedding Channel. Choose your city, and they'll give you a list of dresses and where to find them, as well as a list of local vendors in your area.

I dont know about online dress shopping but as far as alterations I would weigh the options, check the store policy if they screw it up, they are generally more expensive. But it you get someone else to do it then if something goes wrong that is unable to be fixed then you are pretty much out of luck because most will not be responsible fpr damage. I would check out both and decide which is more important the cost or peace of mind.

it depends on the service: some, like http://chryscrossbridal.com - actually make the dress using your measurements and in most cases, you don't need alterations so it is much cheaper then in a salon. If you are buying a premade size, add about $200 for possible alterations and if you are still saving money - then it is probably a good deal.

I bought my dress from a store and the alterations were free as long as the dress was over a certain price.

Try marysbridal.com

U can get a good look at a dress there, then u can buy it from a local retailer. I suggest that u ask them to include free alterations if you buy the dress from them.

I went to David's Bridal.. Don't use them to get your alterations there use an area shop for that. David's charges out the butt for theirs. I needed alil hem taken up and there it would have cost me about $100 and i got my hem and a bussel and got it done for $25.00.. :D and with David's they send it off and it takes them like four months to get taht one thing done since they are soo busy.. My advice, go to an alteration place in your home town. :D good luck and congrats!!!
