im so sorry ur going thru such a prolonged and heartbreaking event.please ask ur local hospital if they have a "respite care" program for caregivers-someone can come in a few hours a week to help u,or to give u a few hours off.call hospice and see if u can have ur father placed.im not sure of the costs, but perhaps insurance will help/or cover in full?its worth a try.its not heartless to place ur father in care,if u are able.hospice is a place to live as ur dying.there are medical, physical and spiritual and emotional programs, activities and other help available.it isnt all gloom and doom,it is a place of dignity, honor and yes, even huomor.they help all concerned to find assistance and peace of mind.this is a heavy responsibility-dont carry it alone.please contact insurance and hospice, and see what can be done .with ur fathers physical needs being met by trained medical staff,u would have more time to deal with the emotions,at this difficult time.good luck, and god bless both of u.

Does your Dad have a terminal diagnosis? If so have you contacted Hospice, they are a wonderful organization that can help both your father, you and your family cope with both the physical and emotional hardships you are facing right now. I'm not sure the bathtub is your best choice right now, a shower chair or bed bath may be better choices, getting a 240 lb man in and out of the bathtub may be dangerous for both you and your father. Hospice can supply help with incontinence (lack of bowel/bladder control), by supplying equipment needed (incontinence pads, disposable briefs, commodes), They can also supply physical assistance with bathing, along with making sure your Dad is on the right medications to keep him as comfortable as possible, and they can supply both you and your Dad with the emotional support you need right now. I highly suggest contacting your Dad's Dr. who can arrange for a Hospice consult or contact your local hospice. See Hospice Web site. I commend you for the care you are giving to your father, It may be tough for you right now but you will never regret it. My heart goes out to your Dad, you and your family.

Wow for a dad who's incontinent, he sure jumps around a lot!! Didn't you just say in another category that he wants to come over and watch the football game with you and your friends, while he acts like a cheerleader jumping around with pompoms and drinking Shirley Temples?
You need to get a life and stop insulting the intelligence of other users!

Is your dad under a doctor's care?? That would be the best advice. If you're trying to handle this alone, stop it now. Besides being difficult on you, he may be missing on some solutions to his problem.
I don't know what other help to give, besides a {{hug}} for the circumstance.

Sweetheart, please take your Dad to the hospital. He needs help there, this is too much for you to handle. Please take him to the hospital right away. He may be enemic, losing blood internally, what is causing his weakness? Did he just come home from hospital? Is he with Hospice? You cant do this on your own. Get help please. God Bless YOU !!!!
