I just started Weight Watcher's last week and tonight will be my first weigh-in to see how much I have lost. I have over 150 lbs to lose, and I know they said I would drop a lot of weight at first very quickly. I have been sticking to my diet, have cut out all soft drinks and I have been walking 1 mile a day faithfully. Out of curiousity, I weighed myself this morning and it said I only lost 5 pounds. I was hoping to lose more than that, especially since I cut out soft drinks, and I drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Any advice?

I can say I do feel a lot better since I have started the program. And Mr. Clever....I didn't come on here to get insulted. I know I am a big girl because I see myself in the mirror every day, but your insensitive comment only proves cleverness can't buy class.

5 pounds is still alot. Good Job! Keep on plugging away. Maybe you can do a workout video every other day instead of walking. Keep your body guessing!
I just started WW yesterday and have my first meeting tonight. I am so excited my goal is to lose 65 pounds.

Yes you will lose alot at first and 5 lbs is good ! weight loss is not meant to be losing FAST but you should do it safely. You didnt gain it overnight so dont expect it to be gone the same way. it takes alot of hard work and dedication specially ifyou have over 150 lbs to lose. You will not lose 5 lbs every week, and yes you will lose a bit more than average since you have more to shed and at one point it will slow down but go by how you feel in your clothes, the inches you lose !... trust me.. been there done that. I may not have ever been as large as you (highest 215 - now 168 and this since Aug. 2, 2006 - 47 lbs lost so far). Make yourself small goals. If you look at the big goals you will definitely get discouraged and that'll be the end of that !

5 pounds is really a terrific amount of weight loss in one week. You are actually describing the very thing that keeps people from acheiving their goals-discouragement that the weight is not coming off fast enough. You are embarking on a long, hard journey, and you've made a great start. Try not to get discouraged and take steps back on your road to success. You are doing everything right. Remember that, and try not to focus so much on the numbers on the scale. WW meetings will help you stay focused and give you the encouragement you need. Your long term health should be your main goal. I assure you, if you stay on track, you will start to see your clothes getting looser, your face getting slimmer, and your self esteem improving in no time. If you can lose 20 pounds in 10 weeks, that will make a huge difference in how you feel, so set that smaller goal. It doesn't seem so overwhelming that way. If you fall off the wagon, forgive yourself and jump right back on. Congratulations on the great job you're doing!

Five pounds in a week IS a lot of weight loss. You are off to a great start :) !! Pat yourself on the back. Most people are lucky to lose one or two pounds a week on a consistent basis. I'm sure when you go to the meeting you will get lots of praise and encouragement.
Now, to make sure you and your WW leader are on the same page with your goals, be very specific with what to expect. "A lot" can mean different things to different people. Set a reasonable goal for a specific number to lose in the coming week. Make it small but attainable. When you meet your goal each week for a month, reward yourself - buy fresh flowers or a new scented lotion - choose something that makes you feel good about yourself and celebrates your accomplishment.
Stick with and in a few months you will be a different person!
Good luck.

You've got to stick with it. Thats the most important thing. With any long term weight-loss plan, you've got to accept that there are going to be times when it seems like you aren't losing as much weight as you'd like. Its a process. So you've lost 5 this week. Would it be nice to lose more? Sure. But in sticking with this, you'll have better weeks.
Dont get discouraged. You have a great goal and it'd be a shame to not reach it because you gave up.

Your doing great! 5 pounds is alot! Don't get discourage because you didn't lose 20 pounds in the first week--remember to set the little goals to reach the big goals. Maybe your goal will be to lose 3 pounds every week and to maintain your walking and eventually work your way up to jogging.
I can't express enough to my clients to not only set their big goal but also think about the little steps they need to take in order to reach the top of that pedstal their reaching for. The little goals can be just as significant as the big ones.
Good luck and train hard.

Please don't be discouraged. Also, try not to weigh yourself at home as your weight will go up and down like a yo yo over the course of a week.
You have to remember that 5lbs is a lot of weight to have lost and if you lose too much at once it really isn't good for you.
It sounds like you've been brilliant so just keep up the good work. I'm sure you'll lose loads next week too - your body probably needs a little time to catch up with your new lifestyle too.
WW is really working for me and I would recommend it to anyone.
Good luck!

Don't be discouraged! Your weight isn't an indication of good health. Muscle weighs more than fat and since you've been walking frequently, your muscle to fat ratio has probably changed.
Just keep up your routine and try not to monitor the lbs so much. If you notice a difference in your appearance and energy, then it's working.
Good luck!

Five pounds in one week! Wow! That is great! If you continue losing only 5 pounds a week, by September (of this year!) you will have accomplished your goal! Don't get discouraged. You are going in the right direction. Keep up the good work!
