Anorexia is a eating disorder especially among young girls/women in which they see themselves as fat and starve themselves no matter their weight. They do this buy excessive exercise, starvation and laxatives. They can end up looking like Holocaust survivors. Also their periods can stop and develop osteoporosis and slowed heart rate leading to possible death! Some signs are not eating in public; 'I'm full, I just ate, noting I like' lots of excuses, no periods for 3 months, weak, anxious, 'I'm soooo fat'.

Anorexia is a disease ... you don't just wake up one day and say, "Oh, I think I'll become anorexic." Some signs that someone may be suffering from anorexia would be refusal to eat or not eating as much as usual, hiding food, disappearing after eating or insisting on eating 'alone', & excessive exercising. Your friend needs serious help to learn how to live with this condition. Best of luck!

Anorexia is a mental disorder which views oneself as obese when in reality, they are underweight. This disorder can and does lead to death if psychiatric help is not sought.

It's not something you "catch." It is a mental disease. If you don't have it, then you don't have it. And there is no way to get it.
