I'm actually a named driver on my brothers fully comprehensive insurance policy...pure and simply because it made the cost of insurance cheaper for him. Adding another named driver to your policy can save you up to 15%.

I didnt know it had anything to do with being married? My brother and me are certainly not married but it nevertheless reduced the overall cost of his policy.

Because married guys are more responsible. You have to go home and explain why you destroyed the car and therefore you will have to not eat out or whatnot for a while. Married guys have made an adult decision to be married which implies that if you cause financial or physical hardship its not just you....... it hurts your family. Think of it this way...... when you are 15 and have a skateboard you don't really think about hurting yourself. If you are 30 you might play on it a bit but at the same time be thinking " if I break my ankle" I will be out of work, my wife is going to have to change her schedule, I won't be able to help out around the house, etc. It's all about maturity and thinking of others. If you get in a car accident you are not only hurting your family but someone elses.

I would think that as the insurance know you are married and possibly have children, well people that are married and have kids are less likely to do something very stupid so are less of a risk, where if u are a young guy with no responsibilities etc u are likely to take many risks hence premiums are higher for self and lower for insured and spouse.

Statistics. Plain and simple statistics. Married men do not get into accidents as frequently as single guys do, and therefore present less of a risk for the insurance company to insure. I don't know why married men are safer drivers, I just know it is true.

i am an agent and all those are good answers but the reason is you get a discount for just being married, as long as your spouse name is on the policy as included or excluded you will get a 10% discount, at least thats the law in texas
