How would they get caught though?

Even ignoring the possiblity of denied insurance because of a false or misleading statement, and the possibility of criminal charges, false vin #s are pretty tough to get away with. More states and provinces are using updated programmes, such as Polk, to check those numbers, not just on cars, but motorcycles, snowmobiles, quads, trailers, just about everything that gets registered. Plus, even if you get away with it for a while, what do you do when you get the letter asking for an inspection on the junker?

You can insure anything you own. There is no fraud in insuring a car that is not running or is damaged. The only time fraud would be involved is if you put in a claim on the policy. I doubt that the multi car discount would offset the cost of insuring an additional vehicle, but if by some strange quirk it would, go for it!!

I think even if they were getting a multi-car discount, the policy would still be more expensive since they were adding another vehicle, so not sure what sort of benefit they would get from it.

Um...yeah...They call that insurance fraud. I highly suggest NOT doing that.
