Anyone can find any car by it's VIN. I'm sure they look that up, as websites like Progressive only ask for the vin, and then the vehicle names, year, color, etc. just appear on the screen after the search is done. Wouldn't it be cheaper to have one less car insured. You get a discount with 2 vehicles, but it's still more than one car.

The multi-car discount saves you money on the second car. You are not going to pay less on 2 cars than you are one 1.
Just buy a car from the junkyard and park in on your lawn, now you have two cars and can pull off your 'scam' legally.

Yes, you would probably get caught. The insurance company will know if thats not the VIN. When they enter the VIN it will tell them exactly what kind of car it is. If its fake it will come back as not a correct VIN.

With the second car, you would get the discount, but you would be paying more...it would be financially beneficial for the person to get caught...
