At first I thought it was becuase they were puppies, but now they are like 6 months old and I have to constatntly watch them when I take them out beacuse they will eat it off the ground, at night it is hard to closely watch the both of them. I just wish it would stop so i didnt have to follow them around all the time when they go out to go to the bathroom.

I feed my dogs Martins K-9, which is the best food on the market, I tried a introduce some raw foods, but they didn't care to much for it, which i thought was weird.

Maybe i'll try to get something from the pet store for it.

This is definitly a problem but it is 10 times worse because they are chronic lickers, they lick non-freaking stop, even lick the air. any idea what to do to stop this?

a lot of dogs do this. i've been told by a lot of people that its due to their diet, and they are just eating it to get extra nutrients out of it that hadnt been properly digested. you can try to change their food to something with less fillers (corn/ wheat) to something with real meat as the first few ingredients and see if that helps. there is also a food aditive you can buy that you just sprinkle on their food and its supposed to make it (more) unappitizing. i know how you feel tho, my puppy is the same way, and she's about 7 months. just this past week we switched her from science diet to canidae and we'll see how it goes from here. i know i hate letting her out at night because i cant see what she's doing and shes a very licky dog so sometimes i just dont want those kisses!

It's actually quite normal. I am on the board of directors for my local SPCA and you'd be suprised how many animals are actually brought in and surrendered BECAUSE they eat poop.

Some will grow out of it, some wont. Remember that at 6 months old your baby is still quite young and has a lot of growing up to do.

Give it time and see what happens.

Though gross, you don't need to follow them around. This shouldn't make them sick as long as you ensure they are wormed. I have 3 small dogs that have taken up this habit for over a year and they are all healthy and happy.

I don't know why dogs are so fascinated with poop. Our dogs won't eat each others, but will gnaw on frozen horse turds or goat pellets every day.
It is a gross habit, but as long as you regularly worm your dogs, it doesn't do any harm.

1) Make no mistake: at 6 months old, they're very much still puppies.

2) Dogs do this.

3) You should follow them around anyway, to pick up the feces. Dog feces will attract rats and other rodents, in addition to any issues regarding hygeine.

Wow. That's really gross. Maybe you can pour some hot sauce on poop so that they won't want to eat it. Then again, they WILL eat anything.

Get the copraphasia pills they sell at pet stores. They work magic very quickly by giving the poo a bad taste. If it continues, take them to a vet. Could be a nutritional deficiency as another poster mentioned.

Sounds normal to me. A lot of dogs do that. I wouldn't worry about it. If it disagrees with them they will just vomit it up. Maybe your vet has a solution for you.

I had a dog that used to do that. I don't know what it is. My dog now likes to take my sons diapers out of the trash and well.........just ask your vet.

most of the time they do that due to a vitamin deficiency. petsmart, petco, they have a supplement to help dogs who have these weird habits!

oh oprah they said it had to do with their noses or something and they said something about putting their toys in the grass so they can sniff those out and chew those instead
