How about that 3 Kings cake (the one with a bean hidden inside for some lucky eater to find and get a prize) that is from Spain. There is also an Italian Christmas Eve tradition of eating a meal that features 7 kinds of fish.

In Germany there are hundreds of biscuits that are only eaten at Christmas time, there is a special cake, "Christstollen" that's made specially for Christmas, and in many southern regions of Germany they make a special bread in the shape of a plaited wreath for Easter. In Poland and adjacent German areas there is Christmas carp, and goose is eaten by other German "tribes" only at Christmas. There is actually a doughnut-type cake that's special to shrove tuesday in south-western Germany.

In the Czech Republic carp is eaten on Christmas day. The carp is bought alive and kept in the family bath for up to a week before christmas. For some reason Czech families find living without their baths for one week no problem at all - if you can find the secret to that please let me know.

Best of luck with your essay.
