Muslim women are allowed to talk to men who are not their immediate relatives. They are not allowed to be alone with them in secluded places, or just engage in useless chatting like friends sitting together and yapping away.
The prophet Muhammad had many women visiting him to ask him questions. But the Quran says that women should talk to those men who are not there immediate relatives in a firm voice, so that someone whose mind is in the gutter does not mistake a womans politeness and kindness as a wrong gesture.

Can't speak for islamic women, but orthodox jewish women (in addition to my wife) talk to me all the time. Not a problem.

Yeah, why not?
They just shouldn't be with each other alone, in privacy.
