After the word it comes out smoother and that's how we were taught. Probably faster as well.

i never write in cursive, but i usually end up dotting and crossing while im writing the letters, but i do it weird. my handwriting is kind of chickenscratchish, so my the dots are way over my i's with a tiny line connecting the dot and line, and when writing t's, i start at the top, go down, go from bottom to middle left, then from left to right to cross the t. it ends up looking like an angular jesus fish tilted 45 degrees counterclockwise

I do it both ways depending on the words I'm writing cause my cursive isn't exactly cursive... it's a combination of cursive and printing... so depending on the word I'm writing I might cross or dot mid word or after I've finished the word.

In cursive I dot and cross after I finish the word. You know, I never thought about that, and thinking about it, when I don't write in cursive I dot and cross right away.

Because you asked, I found that I do it when I write the word and the ts and i are crossed and dotted even before the word is finished being written. LIke the word "something"..the t is crossed even before I finished with the g.

I constantly write in cursive and I remember my elementary school teacher telling us to dot our I and cross our T after we've finished writing the word.

doesn matter. for some reason i cross my t as im writing it but dot my i after. and if i write a word that has t and an i right after it the t and the i kind of become one letter, kind of like an upside down 4 with a dot above it.

I hardly ever write in cursive, but in cursive you are supposed to dot 'i's and cross 't's after you write the word.

after i write the letter.
I think if you have a hand writing that all the letters are connected, it would be more efficient to put the dot or the cross after the word.
But if your handwriting is seperate letters then it is better to finish each letter completely
