Iraq is made up of Majority Shi'ites and some Sunnis and Kurds in the north. Saddam was a Sunni leader in a majority population of Shi'ites. Shi'ites hate sunnis and sunnis hate Shi'ites. Shi'ites finally gained political power which they were surpressed for decadeds. Kurds are in the North and its peaceful up there and they are doing there thing. Sunni's are not willing to give up something they once had which is currently taken over by Shi'ites. Its really a religious war with a lot of hate and rage towards each other. The Shi'ites and sunnis are fighting for Baghdad right now, they both dont want to share it. Iraq has always been a battle ground for thousands of years and it will never stop. They are cowards and the stupidest arabs alive. They can't live with out killing, thats the way they are. They need a ruthless leader to control these people, they don't need democracy.

its to late to ask or answer this question really. Before war world one the Middle East was one state. After the war the West divided the middle East into contradicting states that live in a social and economic shambles forever. For example, the Kurds were not allowed to have a Kurd state and the Kurds were living in the new states such as Turkey , Iran, Iraq and Syria. The majority of the Iraqi were Shiites but West empowered the minority Sunnis in Iraq and they empowered the minority Shiites in Syria. So Iraq had a Sunni President and Syria up to now have a Shiites one. Now you know what civilized west did to the Middle East and they created Israel too to fight the rest.

Sunnis are trying to stay alive after they have been the ruling minority for 35 years.
Shiites are getting revenge for being the majority who has been abused for 35 years.
Kurds are so happy the Sunnis and Shiites are fighting because they're both leaving them alone so they can self govern unhindered.
If you look at Northern Iraq, it's the most calm and most advanced area in the country.

The simple answers:
Land, money, power, oil and autonomy.
It's much more complex than that, but this is not the forum for it.

I think it's because they think their way of life and religion is the only way. Truthfully I don't know, that's just my opinion.
