how can i tell a good guy from a bad guy?

Always trust you instincts. Listen to that inner voice. Bad guys have usually mastered the gift of gab. In other words, they know what to say and how to say it. They tell you what you want to hear. Never put your trust in a guy who does not back up his words with actions. Actions are what defines a person, not words. Don't be afraid to say no or cut off a relationship. Background checks are good. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Listen to what they are and are not saying as well as how they say it. Consider where you met the person. If you hang out in bars and dumps, you will most likely find only garbage. Garbage attracts flies.

The fact is you can not know until after you've "been there" with a person.

Which is what makes it interesting. Just remember to be strong for the most part and the bad ones will come and go and one day the one "good one" will stay ( ;

You can't really. Even the bad guys will treat you good in the beginning. You just have to date them for a while. Always accept advice from your close friends. They can see things that you will be blinded to from infatuation.

Well, you have to get to know them at least a little bit before you can start to tell whether they are worthy of you.

This sounds cheesy, but it's true. Watch how he treats his mother - unless there's some horrible background with her (i.e. she abused him), he should treat her with respect and love. It says a lot about how he treats other women he is close to in his life. At the same time, he should be independant of her and able to fend for himself (i.e. she's not still doing his laundry at age 30).

Also watch how he treats the "little" people, like street vendors or waiters, or even the counter guy at Burger King. If he's rude and demeaning to them, chances are that's part of his true personality that comes out when he's not trying to impress you.

How does he talk about ex-girlfriends? If he puts them down, calls them names, etc., be cautious. That could be YOU he's talking about like that someday, and chances are that they broke up with him for good reason (i.e. he talked like that to their face when he got mad).

Speaking of mad, how does he act when he's upset? Does he withdraw, yell, hit, say things he shouldn't, etc.?

Trust your gut, too. If you get the feeling that there's something "off", there probably is. Listen to your friends as well. They often can see what you can't because you are too close to the situation.

A good guy is respectful of the people around him, thoughtful of people's feelings, and willing to treat you exactly how you deserve to be treated.

The one thing that i don't get is why most girls go out with the type that treat a girl like crap and well other things i wont get into..
