Basically, I want to reformat my PC, I have a legit copy of XP, I have changed BIOS settings so that the CD boots up, but when prompted to boot from CD by pressing any key, nothing happens! My keyboard works fine, so that can't be the problem. I hit every key I can, but it still boots back into XP.

By the way, installing in Windows doesn't work as it says it cannot continue as I have a newer version installed.

Please help!

Clarky.

I have reinstalled windows before from just a boot from CD, never had to format before in the past. No, I don't have a wireless keyboard, its a wired USB one.

If you look at your question you've answered it yourself, windows will override the boot order if you have a newer version of windows xp installed on your computer. You will have to wipe the hard drive first & then install from your boot order & cd.If you go start-my computer-right click Hard Drive & click on format. I had the same problem only last month.Make sure you backup any important files before erasing the disk.Good Luck

do not hit shift F10; it you try besides from a Win XP disc it really is going besides once you've the CD contained in the CD-ROM; in spite of the undeniable fact that, you may pick to flow set up; F10 even as beginning your laptop to seem at your boot sequence to be sure CD-ROM rigidity is first on the record.

Ah, you've changed priorities so it goes to boot from the cd first?

Then put the disk in the drive, & reboot. It should start on its own with no input from you.

If not, I strongly suspect your disk may be corrupt - happened to me & I spoke nicely to Microsoft who sent me a new one. Some time ago, mind you

You need to wipe your harddrive first before doing a full reinstall. You can do this by going to start/run
Type in cmd
cd to C and then type in Fdisk. ***This will remove EVERYTHING - so back up anything you want to save before you do this.

After you do this - booting from the CD will work and your windows install will fire up.

If you want to repair your windows, you need to boot to XP and then drill down to the set up on the cd and fire it off from there.

Maybe you don't have the "any" key?
