Just something I've been thinking about. If there was no such thing as an eternal life in Heaven, and God simply asked you to worship/believe in him and go to worship every Sunday just on the basis that he created this world, would you still do everything that a devout worshipper would do just on the basis of "loving God"?

look around you.. your life, the air you breath, the trees, the water you drink, your family, your blessings, everything is a reward..

Probably not. We worship God today because he did so many things for us, including sending Jesus to the cross so we wouldn't have to go. Standing in light of who God is and what he's done for us is what makes us happy to worship him.

Likewise, I wouldn't buy some woman on the street a wedding anniversary gift just because she so happen to be a female.

This question is just begging for a lot of sentimental gushing on the part of people who fancy themselves to be "devout," and a lot of cynical criticism on the part of people who fancy the devout to be deluded.

"Of course I would love God! It's not about the reward. But He has prepared a place for the people who love Him in the next life, just as He has prepared eternal fire for those who transgress against Him."

To which Ibsen indignantly replies: "Your God is an old man whom you cheat."

I'm with Ibsen.

As far as I know, "God" has never asked anyone to do anything. Does air ask you to give up time and money to prevent going to hell? Does old cat hair ask? How 'bout a brick? Do bricks ask anything of you? Quit wasting a free mind thinking about such B.S.

Difficult question. I would hope I would give it a chance long enough to realize the immediate benefits of living a faithful life.

He is the reward- whatever He would give me is extra- so yes I would worship Him even if there was no heaven. He is worthy.

Why not? for all good things u have in this life, it s all due to the mercy and blesing of God, why wouldn thank him for everything u have?

and for those who believe in God, there is defintely a sense of peace we felt that we didn felt before we started to believe in God.

so why not?

The new testament makes it clear that as Christians if we only have hope in this life, that we are to be pitied more than all others.

Its a loaded question because that would be a different God. I do believe that serving God is its own reward.
