My dad told me yesterday that he never does the testing. On testing yesterday, some other driver was driving the 20 car. Anyone know why he doesn't test? Thanks!

Because he's driving in the chili bowl. He has said numerous times that if there was only one race that he could drive all year, whether it be in NASCAR or any other series, it would be the Chili Bowl. He wouldn't miss it for anything.

The business he may be dealing with is the upcoming Chili Bowl midget race where he is competing with a new team that he just put together.
Also, teams run test drivers if they just want that much more test data for the upcoming races and season. This is much more common in other forms of racing like Formula 1, endurance racing, etc. Heck, there are some teams in F1 and open wheel racing where the driver pretty much just shows up for qualifying and the race while expecting the team to have everything right on the car. This is alos important for teams where the driver speaks a different language from the team and can't effecticely communicate changes he wants made to the car.

A lot of it has to do with the time that Nascar drivers have... They season was over some 60 some days ago and is going to start in another 38 days. Tony, along with others just want time off, and lets face it, the test you are talking about is Daytona... He will have more than enough practice during speed weeks, and all of that...

Tony most likely has to do business some place else. Dale Jr's brother Kerry is filling in for him as Jr is done with testing.
A lot of the drivers still have their teammates there testing and the teams share the information.

He is probably taking care of personal business, Kerry Earnhart, is also test driving the number 8 car for Dale Jr.

tony stewart does alot of other racing besides nascar. Tony doesnt feel like he needs to test, and i agree with that to an extent. Let's hope Gibb's doesnt find someone better to race his car ;)

A few of the drivers have back up testers so that they can still get the info they need but also be available to make thier appearances or other commitments before the season starts.

Because he competes in the Chili Bowl.
He mentioned on his sirius radio show that the Chili Bowl is his favorite race..that is why he doesn't test.
