I suffer from both anxiety and depression. Looking back, I think it has always been present in my life, but has gotten worse over time. I used to be really good about putting on the whole game face, and smiling anyways, but now that I am almost 30, I can't do that anymore. People who knew me when I was younger, probably don't understand how I can be this way now. That bubbly person isn't quite the same. I refuse to go on an antidepressant, because I suffered from seizures due to taking Prozac as a teenager. So I take Xanex at night to sleep some, and I can also take it if I have to during the day if my anxiety is really high. I know I should probably get some counseling for it, as well should you, but I just don't really like to go because almost every one I have ever went to wanted to give me antidepressants. No way, no how, not this girl!!! For me it will be mind over matter that helps this battle, not some medicine that I would have to rely on. This way when I conquer any small step forward, I know it is because of me, and I win, not this awful disease.

Hi, I am diagnosed with depression also. I know that there are certain chemicals in the brain that don't always work and can cause depression. I have that chemical imbalance and have to take Prozac. I have taken it for years and know that it works because I have tried to get off and always end up in a blue funk. Another thing that I do is stay connected. I try to make sure that I am around people and socialize as much as possible. I have several hobbies too and try to stay focused. It is hard at times, but you have to make the effort. Talk to your doctor and see what he recommends. The professional route is the best.

Recognising your depressed and the way it makes you feel and behave is a good start. Take the medicine you've been given by the doctor regularly it really does work. Eat healthily. Think about taking Omega (cod liver oil capsules) supplements research in the states says it works.
Just make sure you talk to someone honestly about the way you feel, pick a friend you trust, rather than a partner and share with them. Write a Diary!!! Exercise regularly and target the things about your life you don't like and change them. Best of Luck

Exercise has been shown to be one of the biggest cures or helper of depression. So before going the medication route i would implement this quick easy little side-effect treatment. That said, trying to find the cause of your depression is important. You need to be happy with yourself. If your not...why not. This may require professional help to bring out the reasons.
good luck and be sure to get as much natural sunlight as possible. Nice day for a walk........so why not try there.

medication is an amazing way to deal with it - im not totally sure how it works, but it can really help relieve some of the negativity and stuff that people face.
also, dont let yourself get too stressed out. always make time for yourself every day - maybe just watching tv, getting a chinese for dinner instead of cooking, listening to music, going to the gym...something that you enjoy doing. i always find its great to 'escape' from everyone else for a while and just be on my own.
have someone you can confide in, someone you can talk to. maybe a partner, parent, or best friend? there will be good days and there will be bad days, and it is the best thing ever to have someone who can be happy for you on the good days, and comfort you on the sad days.
things will get better. hope this helps xx

I have learnt to live with it, and to accept it as part of me!! I don't think I will ever be cured of my depression, but due to years of suffereing from it I have learnt to identify triggers that can lead to a full-blown depressive episode, and thus do things to alter the initial negative thoughts! I have found that if I allow initial negative thoughts to persist they worsen to the point of no return. So if something happens to upset me/stress me out I have learnt to think in different ways - even if they are contrary to what I believe. It is hard sometimes and it does not always work, but the majority of the time is does. I also try to avoid thoughts like 'oh I wish I was happier' - instead I try to focus on the fact that although I may not be as happy as I'd like to be, I am as happy as I can be. Also a good idea would be to set yourself targets - that is, targets that you realistically can achieve rather than targets that you think other people would like you to achieve!!

hi, i was diagnosed with clinical depression just over 18mths ago, i just thought i felt a bit rough, like you do, but this led to physical illness and i ended up losing three stone. even though i did'nt actually feel depressed i knew something was wrong, i just could'nt be bothered doing anything, it got to the point where i would'nt go out of the house. but now 18mths on, i'm not 100%, but i'm a damn site more better, i took up a couple of hobbies, one was the computer, the other was learning to play drums, now i have my weight back to normal, i feel good, and now i am planning with my partner to get married this year, so try and occupy yourself, i know it's easier said than done, but you can, tell yourself, **** to this, dont let it beat you.
all the best to you.

I'm prone to depression, but I never feel depressed, even when I am depressed. Maybe you should just hang round me for a while. Or at least, someone like me. Otherwise, just do something you love doing, but don't make a habit of it.
